VFW Post 8343 New Memorial   1st day brick removal...




The project is underway, and the 1st step was removing 2,800 memorial
bricks to allow the construction to begin.
Thanks goes out to the following who spent several hours pulling up
bricks and moving them to storage pallets.

April 14, 2010

The trenching was completed and footing poured today.
Work started ar 070hrs and Paul G. Senft & Sons Trenching was there.
On site at that time was Bill Schiller-Doc Dentice-Phil Tojek.
Arriving at 0830hrs was Don Kordus-Tony Fischer-Chad Tschan-Bob Lewis-Dick Plucker
Trenching was completed at 11am by Russ from Senft Trenching. Paul Senft, owner of
 Paul G. Senft & Sons Trenching was on hand to check out the work, and told Doc they would
return to auger the flagpole holes & driveway post holes for us.

Thanks to Doc's wife Cindys boss for donating the time and talent and equipment.
Bill Schiller & Doc remained until 3:45pm until the footings were poured and Doc
then taped off the entire construction area. Bill contacted Norway police to keep
an eye out at our memorial site during this stage of construction.
April 15, 2010

The wall forms were installed today, and Bill-Doc-Don-Chad-Bobby Massaro dug the trenches.
Phil arrived on scene to do the electrical, and Tony arrived shortly after to pitch in with the rest of the
guys running the conduit and drilling the holes for the emblems and installing the electrical boxes.
The troops called it quits after 5pm...was another long day at the site for some...
April 16, 2010
Doc-Don-Phil-Chad-Tony started at 8am finnishing installing the electric.........
Then on Monday April 19th, in the morning, the concrete will be poured
for the walls and pedestal.  We can use all the help we can get. Its been a
small crew of VFW members trying to get this all completed.

Excess dirt moved to North side of memorial. All set for WE energies.
WE energies will put in new line either today or early next week

Week of April 26th
Phil will do Electrical wiring installation when fixtures arrive on site

Doc met with "Roman Grading" at the mexican restaurant and Doc asked
Roman if he would donate some grading work at the memorial.
Roman said he would donate the grading of the
entire site and we will pay for his fuel and any stone or gravel needed.
Roman will be lasering the site this week and contact Doc....

WE energies has completed new hookup and the power is back on.

Don-Chad & John Fleischman completed new iron fence for pedestal
Don-Doc-Chad-Phil-John unloaded the New fence at the Memorial site.

Doc is meeting on Thursday with the painter to paint our walls/pedestal,
and will get a price and discuss plan with the Memorial committee

Week of May 17th

Doc got a call from Roman Grading at 0730hrs and met him at the site.
Made some phone calls to everyone to stop by.
11 Hour Day
Phil Doc were  at the site today for the entire day
Don Bill Tony put in 8 hours on the site
Rob & Ted stopped by to check things out as well.
Roman and his Sons  put in 11 hours on the site.
We all left the site at 1830hrs......
NEW ROAD IS IN - OLD ROAD IS OUT
TREE WAS TAKEN DOWN AND REMOVED
ENTIRE MEMORIAL AREA WAS GRADED AND FILL PUT IN FOR BRICKS
WALLS WERE BACKFILLED

Complete Memorial Project
Emblems installed on wall - Wednesday -DONE
Auguring by Senft & Sons Trenching DONE
Flag Poles installed - Wednesday - DONE
Crushed granite around memorial - DONE
Fallen Warrior Installed - Wednesday - DONE
Complete work on flagpole base areas Thursday - DONE
Posts put in along driveway Thursday DONE
Press Releases to the Media - Radio Stations - Doc - DONE

The donated posts arrived and were cut and installed with TB
The Chain will be completed Friday morning, compliments of
Andy at the hardware store. We also bordered the flag pole
areas and filled them with granite.
Area was cleaned up and bricks and stuff moved.
Porta Johns were delivered courtesy of Dick Plucker.
Fire dept. was asked to water sod one more time
