VETERANS DAY
STATE FAIR PARK
AUGUST 10, 2008
A Time of Remembrance
September 20, 2008
Noon
The National Mall, Washington Monument Grounds (17th and Constitution)
To unite our citizens in remembrance, honoring all those who died
in service to our country
with a special tribute to America’s fallen in Afghanistan and Iraq
and the families they left behind. To demonstrate
to these families that in addition to their family and friends,
their fellow Americans care about their loss.
This will be the first time that these families from every state
and our territories will gather.
This tribute is a celebration of the lives of those who died for our freedom and a celebration of that freedom.
Highlights include:
· A Tuskegee Airman will sing the National Anthem
· Video presentations produced by The History Channel for the ceremony
· Ringing
of a replica of the Liberty Bell by troops, some wounded, representing
the
Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, and the Merchant Marine
· Gold Medals of Remembrance will be presented to children of our fallen heroes.
This tribute will also include a family descendant of a service member
lost in each of our Nation’s wars who
will be recognized to represent all of the fallen from that particular
war. Some of these representatives
include descendants of Nathan Hale, Henry Clay Jr., and Quentin
Roosevelt.
